Forest preserves are open every day from sunrise to sunset and our policy is to open every gate, every day of the year.

What do you wear to a forest preserve?

Be sure to apply sunscreen before your visit to the Forest Preserves and reapply as needed. Light clothing layers, include a long sleeve shirt or pants, can also help provide protection from the sun. Consider planning your visit during the morning or late afternoon/early evening to avoid sun at its peak.

Can you drink alcohol at a forest preserve in Illinois?

Alcohol is allowed in the majority of Forest Preserves properties. Alcohol, including wine and beer, is prohibited on or within 50 feet of roads or parking lots, on the grounds of our nature centers, and at these 22 locations, which are posted with signs indicating no alcohol without a picnic or event permit.

Can you drink at Independence Grove?

The Beer Garden at Independence Grove in Libertyville is open for the season. Late spring through early summer, the Beer Garden features a variety of local craft brews on tap, along with packaged snacks and other beverages. Plenty of casual lakeside seating is available.

Is alcohol allowed in Lake County Forest Preserve?

Yes, alcoholic beverages are permitted; must be 21 years of age. You may not consume any alcoholic beverage upon or within 100 feet of any parking area.

Where do you park for waterfall in Glen waterfall?

To reach the Rocky Glen waterfall parking lot, take Cass Avenue 1.5 miles south of Northgate Road to Bluff Road. Take Bluff Road 0.3 mile east to the lot. A third parking lot is on the east side of Lemont Road at 101st Street, 1 mile south of I-55.

How far is the waterfall at Waterfall Glen?

The waterfall is about 1 mile from the Bluff Road entrance.

Is the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County closed on holidays?
